Momos, or Dim Sum, as it's called in some parts of the Orient, are a type of South Asian dumpling, originally popular in Tibet, Nepal, and the Sikkim and Darjeeling regions of India. It has now become a streetfood and a staple in most every city across the country.
The good thing about it is that it easy to make and needs no special equipment other than a steamer. You can find momos in road side shops and carts just like panipuri and holige, as well asDim Sum or dumplings on the hotel menus.
But what if we you decide to make momos at home? Here's a cooking class video cooked up by our very own Chef Zaki, who was kind enough to share his unique recipe, the ingredients, and how to make momos that will make you want mo'.

1. Mix the flour and salt together knead to a stiff dough with water. Keep it aside covered for use.
2. Heat oil in a pan and add garlic.
3. Add the carrot and cabbage. Turn around over high heat till glossy approx 10-15 minutes.
4. Remove from the fire and mix in the Soya sauce, salt, vinegar and black pepper.
5. Roll the dough thin round shape.
6. Take a round, wet edges and place some filling in the centre.
7. Bring edges together to cover the filling. Twist to seal and fill the rest in the same way. This needs little practise as it is a little difficult task. But you can surely do that once you get a hold of it.
8. Steam for about 10 minutes and serve with red sauce and tomato chutney of your choice.
Recipe for Chicken Momos (Dim Sum)
Just replace1/2 cup cabbage –chopped with Chicken minced meat
Recipe for Prawn Momos
Just replace1/2 cup cabbage –chopped with Chicken minced meat
For both Prawn and Chicken momos, the time to cook is similar to vegetable once.
Recipe for Mutton Momos
Just replace1/2 cup cabbage –chopped with Chicken minced meat
Recipe for Beef Momos
Just replace1/2 cup cabbage – chopped with minced meat
For both Mutton and Beef momos the time to cook is little more. It is preferred to cook for around 15 minutes.
