What are names of 9 Navaratri Goddesses and 9 Sweets?
What is the significance of Navaratri (nine nights), and what are the names of 9 Navaratri Goddesses? There's a heavenly sweet for each night and Goddess, and Evoma wants to introduce you to the 9 tastes of Navaratri this year.
The Navaratri (nine nights) festival in India celebrates the victory of good over evil. Each night is a celebration of a different female "Avatar" of the Goddess Durga. The festivities and customs practiced vary by region. Durga Puja is a huge festival in the East, especially in West Bengal. In the West, including in Gujurat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, the highlight is Dandia nights.
Navaratri literally ends with a big bang in the North with Dusshera. The highlight is the Ram Leela drama enactments of the Ramayan, and the burning of 10-headed Ravana effigies. An actor playing the role of Lord Ram fires off a burning arrow into the effigy to set it alight with fire crackers.
These festivities are not religious holidays, but cultural events that bring together large crowds of people for social gatherings, food and lots of fun and games.
